Rahim Burford

Rahim Buford is a nationally recognized speaker, justice advocate, organizer, author, and movement leader dedicated to helping people rethink freedom, healing, and the future of justice.

After serving 26 years in a Tennessee prison for a crime committed when he was 18 years old, Rahim returned home with a vision to create change, not only in his own life, but in the lives of others. Since his release, he has graduated summa cum laude from American Baptist College with a 4.0 GPA, become a homeowner, traveled internationally, and built organizations that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and advance justice.

Rahim is the founder and executive leader of Unheard Voices Outreach (UVO), a nonprofit organization that develops leadership among incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, survivors, and families impacted by incarceration. He also founded the Bridges to Freedom Movement, a statewide initiative that brings people together to promote healing, civic engagement, and lasting systems change.

As a respected strategist and public voice, Rahim has helped lead efforts to reform Tennessee's criminal legal system, including advocacy that contributed to removing slavery language from the Tennessee Constitution. His work has been featured on PBS, MSNBC, NewsChannel 5, and other national and local platforms.

Today, Rahim speaks across the country with a message that challenges audiences to think differently about freedom, accountability, leadership, and second chances. Through keynote presentations, community conversations, writing, and advocacy, he inspires people to believe that transformation is possible for individuals, communities, and society.

Rahim believes that freedom is more than leaving prison. It is the courage to heal, the commitment to lead, and the opportunity to create a better future for everyone.
